Celebratory Reopening of Renovated Production Plant in Lünen

On the 25 th July 2025, EP Power Grit celebrated the official reopening of its production site in Lünen. Guests from all across the German-speaking region came together to explore our newly modernised facility where our latest product is now being manufactured: Asilikos New – a blasting abrasive based on an innovative material blend.
A new chapter in our company’s history
The transformation is driven by a profound change in the supply of raw materials: Until now, our Asilikos abrasive was based purely on melt chamber granulate, a by-product of coal-fired power generation. However, with the ongoing transition to renewable energy and the closure of many power plants, this raw material is becoming increasingly scarce.
Recognising the need for change early on, EP Power Grit took decisive action: the Lünen plant was transformed to handle a unique mineral raw material of volcanic origin, shipped all the way from Iceland. Today, the new Asilikos is produced by blending synthetic aluminium silicate sourced from melt chamber granulate with natural aluminium silicate derived from volcanic lava.
Multi-million investment in new plant technology
The work at the site represents the largest single investment since production began in Lünen back in 2008—making the unveiling of the new plant technology a true highlight for many visitors. During guided tours, the EP Power Grit team walked guests through the entire production process, from the arrival of raw materials to drying and the final product. Thanks to the plant’s multi-story design, visitors were able to experience the operations in action across several levels—quite literally!
The day was rounded off with great food, chilled drinks, and sunshine all around—creating the perfect atmosphere for relaxed conversations among colleagues, industry peers, and long-time partners.
A big thank you to all our guests, employees, and partners who helped make this day truly special—we’re excited for what’s to come!
