Multi-million investment at our Lünen site to produce the new blasting abrasive Asilikos New

Since January 2025, we have embarked on a major transformation of our production plant in Lünen (Germany), enabling the processing of an environmentally friendly and long-term available material of volcanic origin. This represents the largest single investment since the plant's launch.
Why this investment?
Our goal is to future-proof our site. Traditionally, we have used melting chamber granulate — a by-product from burning hard coal in power plants — to produce our blasting abrasives. However, with the ongoing energy transition, this raw material is becoming increasingly scarce. As such developing new sources of raw materials is of fundamental importance to our company.
We found what we were looking for in Iceland, where natural materials of volcanic origin are stored that can be processed into high-quality blasting abrasives. But this requires extensive modifications to our existing production facility.

What is AsilikosNEW ?
AsilikosNEW upholds the strong properties of Asilikos in terms of performance, handling and quality. The new Asilikos is a mineral based, environmentally friendly blasting abrasive made from a mixture of synthetic aluminium silicate from slag granules and natural aluminium silicate from volcanic lava. This use of lava in this combination solidifies AsilikosNEW as the abrasive of the future, ensuring an environmentally friendly, versatile product, ideal for use on various surfaces.
Production in Lünen will be shut down until the end of April 2025. During the conversion period, our 25 employees will be involved in overhaul work and other on-site projects. From May 2025, we will be offering AsilikosNEW to our customers.
